...So, John. OMC "did" name the rotary after you! The Rotary Johnson? Cool.

A Model Name for a highly sought after Racing Outboard Motor by collectors is the Model 92-BR "Lockwood Racing Chief".

That model was made for only one year-1929. It was a 2 cycle, twin cylinder, horizontally opposed, 20 cubic inch class motor. It featured: 1) Dual Barrel Valve type Carburetors (there were no butter fly valves to block the air going through the throats of the carbs) , 2) Two Drip Feed Oilers to supply undiluted oil to the main crankshaft journals, 3) An integral, bright red, Cylindrical Gas Tank so the motor could be easily identified no matter where it was on a closed race course, 4) Smaller diameter flywheel than the Standard Service Model, and 5) Much higher compression than the Service Model. Great, Great Motor!!!

I always heard the discs for the 3 carb engines had the #1, 3, and 5 cylinders retarded slightly as they would tend to run leaner-fuel would settle as it left the carbs. On the 6 carb engines no such problem. Put the staggered (3 carb) disc in upside down and you would burn pistons. We always scribed them before disassembly.
