    InLines and AGM Batteries

I've got a 1 1/2 year old Red Top and a 1 1/2 year old yellow top Optima batteries. Good condition and got them free. I'm running a 1986 Mariner InLine 115. If I use a V6 regulator/rectifier, can I use them without damage to anything? My Sprawl-Mart batteries are getting very old and I'd like to cheap out and use these if I can.

    HELP!!! and Thanx in advance

Dunno why you want a fire hazzard under the cowl but yes it will work.

Not sure how the charging system is set up on an inline but I ran an Optima for years on an early V6 with the 9 amp system. The battery came on the boat and I was too lazy to pull it out. The battery is still good too, bought the boat back in 2014 or so...

As long as your charging system isn't robust enough to overcharge the battery it's fine. Another good application for an Optima would be a 16 amp V6 with fuel injection...

This is a 9 amp and without the regulator it'll go to about 17 volts. With it it'll do about 14 1/2. And whadaya mean by "fire hazard under the cowl"?

Lead acid only in that type of charging system, was never designed to charge AGM batteries. Most regulator and stator failures we deal with at work have an AGM battery.

Okay. 'Nuff said. I'll stick with the old Wally-Werld batteries.
