I am sticking with Mercury Premium Plus. I would like to run Redline, but it's to expensive for me.

Merc full synthetic is easy to find here, sometimes it's more difficult to find the Merc dino that I prefer for my steel motors. I would probably feel ok using the OMC (ok, BRP) full synthetic...

Wellllll , I tore down a race engine I build for a customer in Idaho he is VERY successful, he breaks in on fully petrolium which building these for 25 years Iím successful with , then I switch them to Red Line @ 32:1 , after tearing this motor down I found it to be IMO to dry , I confirmed with the customer was he mixing the oil heavy enough ? He assured me yes ?? I found all con rod bearings dry and bores on the verge of skuffing , I had conversation with a guy I have total confidence in , I am now instructing after break in to move to a pennzoil blend at 28:1 either the Prem.Plus or XLF , I observed a set of bores that had a ton of hours at 11,000 rpms and after a light ceramic ball home and plateau brush looked great , Iím convinced , thanks for your help Mitch !!!

I do suggest to all my steel sleeve motors after break in go to the Penn. XLF @ 40:1 with 100% success for many years , free country run whatcha please all I can do is report whatís working for me and my valued customers ... Stay Safe !!

Jay, After our conversation last year, I switched to Redline @ 40;1 in my ROS 280 because of cruising and occasional 8000 rpm speed runs. The carbon build up on the piston tops disappeared and the motor runs so much nicer.
In this operating scenero , would you suggest a change?

Im a fan of the Redline, I do get what Jay is saying. The motors are not dripping with oil but I have not seen what I would call dry (amsoil).

If your having good luck with any product it’s a crap shoot to change , I was a Red Line cheerleader , might be the fuels he’s running bunch of of compression and rpms , I just had large concern with what I observed so on this engine I went another way , I wanna check a leakdown after this hone and ring change ...

On your Alaska 280 might go to 32:1 in your 280 , can’t hurt .

Not a NIC, but I’ve been running it in steel sleeve motors at 32:1 regularly turning between 7 and 8k with very good success. Engines also very clean on tear downs. Only thing I don’t care about is smell, but otherwise very pleased.
