BRP Etec Turbo
Only in a sled so far. Does anyone know anything about it? Potential outboard application?

I think a blower is more suited to life on an outboard

Currently not on the table for outboards. They are going a different direction. Completely different.

Step one build a dual pinion gear case that will handle surface running and TQ.

Fueling the speculation: could it be a G2 V8 - 2 extra cylinders on the existing platform ?

I bet they finally switch to 4-stroke utilizing some of their Rotax technology. The pwc engines are powerful, simple, and light. The 1600 cc weighs 200 lb and makes 300 hp.

I know of a snowmobile (1200 cc triple) rotax that has a procharger on it and he is making 350 on pump fuel and claims just shy of 500 is within reach on race gas and internal engine mods. https://www.procharger.com/motorcycl...s/ski-doo-1200 They have the capability of making the horsepower but there are a lot of other parts needed to make the power effective (mid sections that are strong, gear case that holds up and is efficient) are the two biggest hurdles that I see. The Seven marine group came out their dual pinion performance case and its not been all happy times. It will take a racers passion from somebody high up in BRPs ranks to go after a small market segment like ours.
Electric is going to be the next answer. The question is will it be more affordable and will this group still be interested by the time its a reality?

Lets not forget that a boat is a completely different animal from an outboard too. They would have to step up the displacement big time (in comparison to the Sea Doo and Ski Doo offerings) in order to have enough torque to push the big boats. Not that it couldn't be done, but it's definitely going to be a completely new motor, not based off of the current stuff. That is even if it is a 4-stroke.
I also agree with the above, no one has figured out the mids and gearcases like Merc for the high performance stuff. They will need a lot of work in those departments which might be the bigger hurdle than making the ~400hp mark from the engines.

It was interesting to me that they did not go for more power at sea level - just maintain power at elevation. I boat at 719 feet

Turbo normalizing, i flew an ultralight with a 2 stroke they get really lazy with altitude. 165hp w/o the turbo pretty crazy for a lil 850cc dfi motor at 8k..
