Changing An AN-12 Fitting??
One of the AN-12 120 degree fittings on my Sportmaster gearcase for my low water pick up has cracked and I want to change it with the new one I just got but I am not sure how to do it. I have attached a couple of photos of it. The fitting looks like it was pushed on to the braided stainless hose. Do I heat the hose up with heat gun and pull it off? Or do I twist it off? Or do I cut the end off and install the new one in the hose? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Gary

I think on that type, you "unscrew" the broken piece... hold the thin hex with another wrench. Then pull the hose off the fitting and slide the broken piece off.

The part of the hose in the fitting will be destroyed when you unscrew the old fitting so you might as well cut the end off , put some tape around the hose to keep the strands from unraveling and cut it with a die grinder and 3 in cutoff disc. To put the new one on unscrew the lower part of the fitting from the elbow, grease the end the hose put the lower part on the hose.. it will push on and make sure the hose is all the way in then put some nail polish on the ss hose where it meets the edge of the fitting to make sure it didnt push back on the next step, next grease the nipple and inside the end of the hose then screw the elbow part in, this will take 2 wrenches and be fairly hard to turn towards the end.

Changing An AN-12 Fitting??
H20PERF
I got it done. I wrapped the hose with one turn of electric tape and cut the hose through it. I left the tape on and the hose slid right into the sleeve. The hardest job trying hold the elbow and screwing the sleeve and hose onto it. I used the my vise with a slat of wood on each hoping no to mark the fitting but it did slip and marked the finish a bit. If I have to it again, I will get the proper wrenches and I found nylon plates for the vise as well.
Thanks again for your help

Glad u got it done, the larger sizes can be a pain, You have to grease the inside of the hose really good or it gets pretty tight at the end. Problem with the vice is some times you squeeze and distort the sleeve.

I use a sacrificial male AN to npt fitting in my vice.....screw the end you’re working with onto it and now you’ve got a solid working surface. Works great building push lock hoses too.
