Crankcase stuffing on a 40 year old V4 140 OMC
Just doing some research on stuff the crankcase on a 40 year old Johnson 140.
I have read that the newer engines have less need for stuffing as this has been taken into account by the manufacturing & design system used nowadays.
The 140 comes with reed stuffers but what else can be done to de-crease the volume ?? Can the wrist pin be blanked off ??? Can the reed bed (Where it sits in the inl;ent manifold) have more work done with epoxy to help reduce the volume ????
What other things can be done ???

There is really nothing else that can be done to crankcase of that motor too help much. You can plane heads, . 020 or .030 to increase compression. But then you will always have to run HIGH OCTANE FUEL. Also you can remove L/U and drill 4, 1/2 inch holes in top of L/U at exhaust tract area on both sides. That will make motor breathe better, but you may piss off other boaters with extra noise.
