In boat fuel filter with new 4 strokes

According to all the documents I’ve read Mercury does not recommend running the normal in boat fuel filters with the new V8’s. I’m rigging a new fishing boat with a 250 ProXS and the builder installs the standard 10 micron Yamaha canister fuel filter on the boat. I’m thinking I should bypass this to ensure proper fuel flow but looking for opinions, maybe from people who have repowered and are still using their previous filter setup.

I checked on the Yamaha site and they claim 90gph flow capacity so maybe it’s worth keeping?

The new V8 has a strong lift pump. I say keep the filter "if a pulse pump flows it, a lift pump will for sure".

That’s the way I’m leaning. I’ll hook up my lift pump to the fuel line once it’s plumbed from the filter and prime the line and filter before I connect it to the motor to make the first start easier.

Just to be sure but a vaccum gauge on system to see how hard pump is working to pull the fuel. It should read 3.5 inches or less to be safe.
