Breaking in rings on a 2.4 V200 chrome Merc

Hi fellows. So I have read ALL KIND of stuff on here about breaking in motors and see 10-20 hours of varied RPM's and heavy oil and such as a common theme.

If I only put in new rings on my stock Merc pistons in my chrome mota, does this long break-in apply again? (Would manually scuff the bores with green scotchbrite)

    thanks

Don't scuff bores per shop manual, Put in new rings, check bores for taper, vary speeds for 2 hours and then run it.

Unless a very low hour motor it probably needs more than just rings, would bet pistons are worn beyond spec. Skirts and ring lands.

Fair points on wear. I'll check that. I need to do another compression check since I decarbed it
