    Old oddball Skeeter help

    So I've got an 89 Skeeter SK1700.
From what I can understand because it is a center console, left side steer, it weighs about 200-250lbs more than a typical Skeeter from that era.

A little back story...A year and a half ago I was(still am) new to boats.
I got the hull without a motor for cheap. I had an 1977 85hp at home... that should work!
    The hull is rated 90-150hp.

The 85hp I got to work, but really struggled. I had to go down all the way to a 13P prop, but once it was up and going I could get 30mph out of it.

I have a 150hp Johnson that I just picked up last fall and put on the boat. It hasn't ran in years, so I'm going through things now before the ice disappears.
I also picked up an 8" manual Jack plate for it.

    I have 3 props, all 14-14.75" 19P, 21P and a Ballistic 4 blade 23P.

Going through a prop calculator, I should be able to see 60mph out of the Ballistic... but with this boat, I'm concerned it may be more than the 150 can handle... Or... am I totally off base and I'm going to be looking for a 25P prop....

Have any of you guys set one of these old dogs up and can remember what made it run out nicely?

    Thanks!

A little of the info I can find on it:

Dont go buy props till you run the boat and really know what the rpms are and where you need to go for prop.

I'd rather not buy more.... but they are cheaper while the ice is still around.

If someone was to say they have ran a 25P no problem.... I'd start looking.

The reason I have the props I have is deals... lol I got the 19 and 21 for $75. I got the Ballistic for $75.

I'm not spending big money... but that's less money for tackle! Lol

What I've found for documentation says 1250lbs dry. 40 gallons fuel (300), 3 batteries(100), Tackle (50), and one chubby driver (250lbs)

For round numbers lets say 2000lbs without motor, which is... around 400 as I recall.

I haven't found a scale close to a lake to Weigh it, then pull the boat off and reweigh to get an exact weight.

Most of the other hulls of that length and era are under 1000lbs from what I've found.

Ya if I cant weigh it I go by the specs like u have posted , 1250 ain't that bad but not great , but my guesstimate is that a 25 will b to much prop to get the rpm where it really needs to b at wot with 150 , from my experiences, 150hp can pull a 25 or 26 prop on a 16 17 ft boat under 1k lbs to its recommended rpms or little more so my bet would b on a 23 pitch to start with , now if u have jackplate and low water pick up ,then u can free up sum rpm at wot by surfacing the propClick image for larger version.

I've got a spare lower unit.... I was thinking about doing a low water pickup with one.

    Sadly my jackplate is manual....

    Good to know.
I plan to install a water pressure gauge as well, so I'll be able to keep track of that.

Any ideas where I should start with Prop to Pad measurement?

Any advice as to the best way to get this measurement?

3 and half in below pad good starting point , will need long straight edge or sumthin similar, trim motor level , not all way down but level , and put yard stick or sumthin on bottom of pad sticking out by lower unit , then measure center of prop shaft to top of yard stick
