I don't know if James Perry is taking work does awesome work(did my motors has one if the best reps too) but would ask Chris Carson or someone on here about rebuilding.. that way if need be can just get it bolt in and go...think there are some local guys too..
Would ask on here about who your looking at buying powerhead from on eBay just to see about rep doesn't hurt..LETS GO BRANDON.... LETS GO BRANDON

X2 you just dont know what your buying a long time ago i had a customer who had recently purchased a rebuilt long block from mercury it however did not last hardly anytime and it blew again Mercury would not honor its rebuild because it was not assembled and installed by a certified mercury mechanic, thats where i showed up in the picture i was going to rebuild it after disassembly i found it had 3 different size bores in it standard .015 and .030 over ???? i sent the block to Ruck after he got it he called me and said one of the bore outs had a gap between the sleeve and the register and heat would not transfer and that is the hole that blew so i had 3 new sleeves installed and i rebuilt it i never heard from that customer again. Ruck is the person who started my educated me on blow bores with aluminum caked up on sleeves( James Perry completed it) the piston going up and down leaving alum on the sleeve causes it to push the register out (i call it sleeve holder but some others corrected me on the name)and it will never last it will blow again in the same hole. most all blocks wear in the bore after a lot of running you can get away with about .003 thousandths but no more and they get out of round ive found some with 5 to 7 thousandths good luck mister

It’s from marine parts warehouse in KY. 99.9% positive rating out of 14512 reviews. Says all cylinders have been bored to max .030. New pistons, rings, wristpins , displacement measure 153cu.in. Gaskets are included. Comes with a 1 yr warranty. For $4k. But I won’t even be able to break it in within a yr.. if I get to go 6-7 times a yr it’s a miracle and even then I only run 10-15 mins all day. Lakes aren’t very big around these parts.

Well my expert advice read the fine print first haha..
If just a rotating assembly you have to finish and they might not honor warranty if not done by certified mech would make sure.
Repeating myself but like I said call Chris or someone on here ask for mechs on here and find out what they charge etc.. don't have to worry do much about warranty then you know the work is good..
And if you don't get to use much I would think you'd want a bolt on and go?

Oh GOD... do a search on here for blackbird motors and even to a post asking about them... Wait till you see the responses ...
But yeah you should be able to find a Powerhead for that kind of money in rebuilt or in great shape

I have a 21’ hydrabass 2150. I was wanting to go bigger. Was really wanting a 225 optimax but as I said earlier, I can’t really throw $8k towards a motor. Especially with me only going 6 times a yr. so I guess I’m going to just have the XR6 rebuilt

Just have to look/shop around you can definitely find a good running motor for 5g or less might take some looking and testing but worth the effort

See that’s why I’ve put off fixing this one for so long. I could spend a few more and get what I actually want. But the more I see people at the lake and driving down the road with theirs,,, making my patience thin lol. I’m ready to get back on the water. Haven’t been since September .. it seems like now that the boat is down,, I have a lot more opportunities to get to go, and I know just as soon as I get it running, I’ll have no free time
