Yamaha Electronics on OMC crossflow?
I was rather unsuccessful at finding out how others have converted OMC motors to Yamaha ignition components, and why they are supposedly much better. How is this done, and do the parts (stator, power pack, sensor coil) really swap over seamlessly and with proper fit? I'm rebuilding a v4 100xp evinrude, and then a 1993 60hp looper. Are those candidates? Are the CDI boxes from yamaha tuneable and thus the reason for the swap? I have a hard time believing OMC electronics arent that reliable as most of my motors are 20-35+ years old and running like new. Thoughts from an expert?

CDI do a 4 charge coil stator you can use on v4, cant see you need any more on a stock ignition v4
All 3 cyl omc have 3 charge coils so out of he box the most powerful hence 31M race engine uses stock parts, 120+hp from 49ci 9000 rpmLast edited by powerabout; 10-12-2021 at 04:22 AM.

your saying use a 4 coil Yamaha setup, or a CDI /OMC 4 coil?

The gain in is charge coils under the flywheel not the plug coils followed by how many capacitors in the packs or how many packs as most have single capacitors.
The F1v8 architecture was 4 charge coils running 4 packs, engines ran over 10,k, if they could get 8 charge coils under there I am sure they would have.Last edited by powerabout; 10-13-2021 at 08:34 PM.
