2.5 225 Pro Max
Found an old timer selling a 99 225 promax that he had “triple deuced.” Can someone give me some insight what “triple deucing” an efi motor exactly does? I’m guessing it just means the motor has 3 double barrel carburetors, but why would you do that to an efi motor? And how exactly does that work? I’m new on the block and trying to learn as much as I can.

Do you think it completely ditches the injectors or does it just premix it for them?

That means he ditched all the efi stuff and made it carburated

Yea that’s what I figured, I can’t find any kits or anything online to do that though. You think it’s worth a **** to change it like that? I know people carb swap LS motors and I’ve always thought that was pretty stupid, but this is all new to me so I’m all ears.

well i guess to each his own there were some old time 6 pack manifolds floating around for a long time i never saw one my self in person i did hear of them and see pixs on various webb sites long ago as far as taking all the efi stuff off to go to carbs is a mistake im a old retired motor rebuilder and i did over 400 150 ,175,200,225 EFI Mercury motors and i really hate carburetors even though i have had several carb motors in my life time they are just trouble. I took my auto oiler off my first 225 promax before it was out of warranty because i was hearing all sorts of horror stories on rotating assembly failing because oil gear stripping and other hiccups with them and after over 20 years of rebuilding merc's i found that the auto oiler caused over 80 % of the blown motors i was fixing to rebuild so why would i put it back???? high rpms will cause the oiler to stop working right and boom> efi is very good if you know it ,, but any thing marine needs to be researched and maintenance done regularly just my .02

there is no "kit" for it.. most change ta carbs because, of like bobby says, either lack of knowledge about efi stuff, expense of parts, parts availability and etc... some have carb stuff layin' 'round their garage/shop collectin' dust when their efi parts take a dump... unlike bobby, i like carbs over tha laser efi, efi is great when its all workin' like it should but thought tha carb motor was lots easier/cheaper ta maintain.. but i did have an affection for tha Hi Perf. efi stuff over carbs...
bobby, that "6 pack" thing was for tha earlier blocks anda real pain in tha a$$ so wasn't used much.. think russ still has one.. hope all is well with ya bud!

Shane, the EFI delete is common and if done correctly it will be fine. Reason why many do it is exactly what was stated above.
Carbs will get the job done and done well if they are setup properly.
That said.....EFI for me for sure....
