What RPM? 1981 V225 Mercury
I have a Ring 20 with an old v225 on the back, we used it all last summer with no tacho
With a 21p laser two it hits 60mph
A 23p 67mph ( have to back off because of chine walk - motor mounts and engine height perhaps?)
I've managed to repair the rpm gauge, the little pot on the back to adjust for different engines was corroded. So I soldered in to bypass so now it can't be adjusted from V6
What RPM should we turn this old beast?
Help much appreciated. Chris

6,000 RPM would be max. rpm to turn it. I would use a little extra oil if turning it that high. Maybe 1 pint to 5 gal. GOOD LUCK.

That's a 7 pedal motor iirc. Mine was a Franken Merc I built from spare parts.
But I had it on a gutted 16 checkmate and it liked a lot of rpm. Prop shaft near flat or just below the pad area.
I spun it up to almost 7K when I was unloaded and lite with a Merc small ear 28 chopper.
On a lite flighty hull that was no problem. On a larger rig 6k would be good too go...lmo
I did run a bit more oil too. 40/1 if memory serves me.... That was almost 30 years ago...James H. W2F a V-King... Want 2 Fly a V-King

If it has steel reeds do not go over 6k, better yet install some Carson reeds.

Not sure what reeds it got fitted.
Thanks guys, I'll start using a little more oil.
Will make sure it's propped to turn no more than 6k
This thing had been sat something like 25 years. 50 hours In and running strong
I'll look into the reeds. Do they sell a set for the 7 petal?
