Faster than what? I dont think you understand what I'm saying that 1150lbs is with everything engine and all, even 2 people! So a bare hull is likely 3-400 or so lbs. I have no reason to lie every single piece of information I gave in this whole thread is true, If you don't believe it that's fine do your own research and you will find the same stuff I have actually talked to Mark weigel on the phone regarding the tough 16 and the formula race and how he liked it, to add to that it was actually 5 or 6 miles an hour faster than the E-Tec 60 on the same boat. These are real numbers I did not make them up I don't believe everything I see on the internet either but when I see the same result consistently there has to be some truth to it especially when you find it in a lot different places.

The also use them on 16' v60 hulls in europe and it psushes them into the 60's on the hulls that weigh 1150+lbs race ready.
    Tuff is about 800-850 dressed

Yea probably exactly, dosent mean they have the right prop, different bottom design etc 3 mph is not much to gain, how low is the engine etc many factors. Either way. 60mph is reasonable for a 4 stroke 60. It's no 2 stroke sst60 but it's reliable and on the right boat can make it fun.ill let you know for sure once my boat is done but I expect 60 or better with the Merc cleaver made for it.

I was quoting you with that stat, 1150 etc....
Anyway what you're saying is you like the new 65/70.
From the purpose home built side of things I could think of at least 3 old 2 stroke triples from all the brands that would run circles around it and weigh less and live years doing it.
But it has nice stickers and probably a good pontoon motor just the same.

Well I never said it was a godly engine, someone asked and I provided real world info, I bought it not to be the fastest but to be reliable, There's nothing really close to in In new form atm , if I could buy a new 2 stroke I would have. I plan to do 110 l+ mile runs in the keys I wanted a new engine, I needed a 15" shaft and something with a decent gear ratio, something that had trim and fuel efficient. The formula race was the Only thing i could find. I wish there were more options. I wish Etec had a 60-90 with a 15" mid and not some huge gearcase. Prob would have been a better option and it's lighter but unfortunately I don't want a 20" mid engine or want to chance a older 2 stroke, if that was the case I'd buy an sst 60 or mod a 90 Yamaha tripple Wich this engine is not close to I agree with that, however everything has shifted towards 4 strokes and unfortunately good performance options for smaller Hp boats are almost non existent. Give Merc credit atleast they are keeping classes alive with the formula race.

I thought someone mentioned a new 15" Etec just recently.

Neighbour had a 60 Merc four on a toon, a few years back, awful motor. I suspect these are better.

    And I mean crap!

Nope no 15" Etec only 30hp and below. What was so bad? The powerheads been the same for almost 20 years just minor mods so asside from that all the "race stuff" on these two short shaft engines are essentially the same as a pontoon engine with 400+ rpm.

The only thing better would be a 50 HP 2-Stroke TLDI Tohatsu but with that Tldi tech idk of they can be modded and 50hp is kinda low. They are light at 205 lbs and can get them now as of right now and in 15" with a good loweunit.

Weak, unreliable, fuel and ignition repairs, chugged gas, towed him in a few times. Couldn't fit the thing three garbage cans.

Yes even to this day Yamaha and Merc share same powerhead on the 40-70hp. It's been very reliable on the newer engines. Since 2005 it's been relatively the same minor changes here and there.
