Mercury 60R vs EFI 60 FormulaRace
Folks school me....
Mercury just launched the "new" Mercury 60R. The difference I see between the two are:
FormulaRace has
Steering Arm
1.83:1 vs. 2.33:1 gearcase
Lighter
Smaller capacity..a few CC small hence maybe a different block.
More options for props
What about differences applications? Tunnel vs V hull?

The formula race 60 is the race engine, On f4s tunnel boats in europe this engine pushes them mid to high 70's, The also use them on 16' v60 hulls in europe and it psushes them into the 60's on the hulls that weigh 1150+lbs race ready. There are others using it on smaller v hulls and they are seeing 65+ The two engines are similar but alot different. its the same block, same rpm. Both 60.8 cubic inch displacement. The formula race on their website says its limiter is 6000, it is not it is 6250 and a hard limiter at 6300. In addition they are marketing the 60r as a 1 liter but the formula race is 995cc they likley rounded up for marketing. The bore and stroke for both is the same on both. The new 60r is marketed as a small flats boats engine that is very popular nowadays. They needed to fill that hp range with an "R" motor. There are no other 15" mid motors in this hp range in the market merc is trying to get in on it. The difference between this engine and the Formula race is:The new 60r is 20lbs heavier, ( likley due to gearcase) The 60r has a 2:33 gear box and is huge at 4.25" formula race has a 1:83 at 3 3/4", the formula race has solid motor mounts the 60r does not, the formula race has wing plate mounts on the mid and comes with wing plates, this 60r does not. Both have 6300 limiter and likley tuned the same so its a step up from fishing motor. Fishing motor makes just over 60hp at 5800 rpm, the formula race and presumably 60r make closer to 70 at 6300. 60 r can have up to 5 year warranty, formula race, no warranty. i like this idea, im hoping it helps push other manufactures for make small race style engines again, Etec 60 should come with 15" mid and a small race gear ratio lower unit! hopefully this puts the competition out there. I must add these engines are extremly reliable given they are actually made in china, at least they were, they may have switched with this new 60, but I have seen this powerhead with over 10,000 hours on it... yes thats alot.

If you could, put up a pic of the 1150 lb hull that runs 65+ MPH with a 60 hp motor. 66 kmh I'd believe

The 1150 lb hull runs 60-62 thats ready to race, the smaller 13' rapidcraft runs 65 but is lighter, theres a super light 16' TG boat that runs 65+ I have talked to the owners of all these boats to get info for mine. MInd you the Tg has a flat pad, the other including the tuff16 have either a rounded pad or a small deadrise pad. my boat should be done in a month or so, ill let you know what mine runs with it, bare hull weighs 450, prob around 900lb ready to run.

Someone else claimed numbers similar, then put up race results for the class and it was all in kmh, those 65 numbers fell to 30-40s mph. 1150lbs plus driver with a 60hp...

The for sale section is not where should be be and I don' want to hamper anyone' sale but can' this have a section in the racing spot or another one close by . These hulls and power are just super neat and I would like to see more on this stuff . Hulls , power and build threads pertaining to this very subject. Looks like a bunch of fun and super competitive. Share some more of the hulls and tech .

These engines make almost 70hp at their limiter, you can also have Simon tune them to gain about 7more bit all thoes are stock, I'm going to test with mine, then have it tuned and see if it makes any difference

Yeah thhats a bare hull, wiith no rigging no motor etc is 500 lb. That boat has a full interior carpet etc along with a hatch.... My description never said bear hole at that weight it's race weight at 1100 lb not a bear hull that would be impossible. You don't have to believe that the engine is decent I'm not trying to prove to you that it is great or anything, I can care less what anybody thinks I have just done a ****load of research before I bought mine and a lot of research on people who run them to figure out how their boats are set up and what not so I can get a better idea of how mine will run I have physically talked to a few people and emailed quite a few others to get a general idea This engine will definitely push most somewhat light boats over 60 miles an hour, there's even a guy on here whose friend runs a Boston whaler 13 fully rigged for fishing and it does over 55 miles an hour.
