Old school OMC, CCC drag boat.

While some can do nothing but bash OMC,I thought I’d post these very rare pics I just stumbled on that show a side most don’t talk about.

This is a Butts Aerowing 3 point Hydro drag boat.
Tim Butts was the wizard that built these boats.
    He was a genius.

When I was 19, I sold everything I owned, loaded everything I still owned into a ‘1973 Chevy Belair, 454, X highway patrol car and left Ohio and drove 19 hrs straight through to Houston Tx to work for Tim and hopefully learn from the genius.
(Oh yeah, also raced 20 SSH for him)

While there, I heard rumors of this drag boat but never saw it.

    A triple C on a 14’, 150 lb hull.

    Large stones on display!

    For the faithful, enjoy.
For the nay sayers, Fk off.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I say they're all cool! The black ones are just cooler!

that kind of power on a sheet of plywood must have been a wild ride.

My parents mostly just shook their heads at what I did when it came to boat racing.

Was a pretty amazing time for a 19 yr old.
I stayed w/a sister that lived in Houston so that helped.

    Funny part I just remembered......
On way down, the trans went out in that car about 2 AM, 3 hrs from Houston.
    Way before cell phones.

Slept in car till day break then got my bike out of the trunk, put it together and rode it 10 mls to a truck stop.
Called my bro-in law and had him bring me a trans filter and case of tranny fluid.
Rode my bike back to the car, jacked it up, drained the trans, pulled the pan n filter and waited.

10 mins later bro-in law shows up w/parts.
Bolted it back together and crossed my fingers.
Car ran like a top to his house where I then changed trannys in his driveway.

Funniest part of that saga is/was, at that time it was legal to drink n drive in Tx!

    The Good old Dayz

In 85 I attended my Sister wedding in St Pete bought a 4 unit Key West fixer upper... present.

The type of racing you did is so unique I've only watched never been in a little rocket, weight so minimal, moving around in the boat to make corners and such.

Fl was drink and drive till the late 80's.

Thought it may be the very rare Mercury Bobcat villager.

That's crazy power for that boat.
