Alien Cowl On Two Piece
Getting ready to install an alien Cowl on a 1999 2.5 200hp can and two piece exhaust plate. I drilled the noise maker holes in the can like the fishing 260's, removed the exhaust tube and installed solid mounts. I plan on using the 99 200 FF power head. Any suggestions on what if anything should be done to the outlet on the rear of the can? The hole outlined in red had a tube that went to the skirt on the fishing cowl. The ovel outlets in white are cast closed. Is there anything else that could be a problem with the changes I have made?
Thanks!

You prolly know this but. The 2.0 and 2.4 had the "eye brows" on mid were open at top for exhaust relief, and the 2.5 came along and the "eye brows" were cast solid and the new round hole in back was the new exhaust relief just dont cover it up unless u have a hose runnin sumwere to vent out

Thanks Merc 2.5.
If I found a skirt for the Alien do you think it would be ok to plug the round hole and open up the oval ones?

They have a specific rubber reliefs boot for the alien skirt. It goes in the hole but lays flat down along the can. I may have one in the garage and will post a picture.
What you can do is plug that 1” holes and since you removed the liner just drill 3- 3/8” holes in each rectangular slots which will do the same thing the rubber boot was doing.

Thanks tux 974. I did not know that so I will not modify anything yet. I looked in the parts book for that boot but didn't find it. I bought a new 260 and removed the skirt and put it in storage. I would trade it for a nice Alien skirt.

If you look in the Mercury parts book for a 1999,2000 alien cowl for 200, 225Promax they will have the part number for that boot.

Yes, they do!
Make sure to buy the little backing plate for them and the screws also. Screws have no point and are self tapping so they do not crack the plastic.

After Mec2.5 educated me on the 2.4 cans having the eyebrows, I looked around and discovered I already own a 2.4 can. I will still use the 2.5 because it's in almost new condition. Thanks for the input nitro_rat!
