A couple pics from the race last weekend, looks like it lost a turnbuckle connection in the steering the last run. Luckily it was on the slack side.

Wow good pics. For the record this is one of the most respected no expense spared race teams in the county. We were talking last night about the fact that it’s pretty scary to think about the stupid little pieces you rely on at 110+ in 800ft.

It's hard to see , but the trim cylinder lays down flat between the transom and the bottom steering pivot boss,on a couple of tabs .. just behind the trim indicator cable.
I could stand the cyl at an angle, but it's not as far as it looks.
The pivot points and driveshaft setback are in the same location as the ones I have done for the OMC guys. They have done pretty good with those Since we had to start somewhere, we felt that was as good a place as any ..

2.5 offshore with two inch setback has two cyl ram mount holes, standard + laydown ...

usually when you see a skeleton mid its' because it's super short or made to adapt different lowers. this setup is comparatively tall to the other stuff i've seen. what was the reasoning for going with this setup?

If you look in the background of the shop pic, you'll see a 9" unit on the V-8 OMC / 2.5 Merc lower. All have 1 motor pattern 1 one lower pattern ..

It was built to be 15" class legal.
The "adapter plate" is a quarter-inch thick .. and weigh's under two pounds.
A stock one is three and a half inchs tall ... and weigh's fifteen pounds.
    A stock 15" can is just under 14" tall. 14 + 3.5 = just under 17.5
Did he want to go to a race and have someone say , your missing 3.250 inch's somewhere .. you can't race ... Nope ! We put it in the can .. maybe a pound of tubing ...
It's still an inch+ shorter than a 20" can and a bunch less than a 20 plus adapter plate. Since it's slim .. it looks taller than it really is. What is accurate, is how much lighter than a stocker it is ...

    Chaz, Very nice work!

When it comes to steering components especially on a high strung rig overkill is always a good thing.....

    Wow!
    Lucky, lucky, lucky.

i remember when the F-1 master, Ayrton Senna was killed. It really rocked me.
I was a huge fan of his but what really got me was, his accident was caused by a failed repair (welded steering shaft) done by one of THE best crews in the world.
If it could happen to them...., how bout a broke Dick red neck like me?

That one really slowed me down.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I second The WOW.. Congrats on the super looking rig and outa the box results, get some drilled nuts and safety wire on those turn barrels man, looks like a lot of open threads too. If the barrels have holes in the middle run the wire thru and to each nut even done by hand without pliers will be safe..

    Qs1

Kevin, great pic I was hoping someone got a shot of it. Not gonna lie it scared the hell outta me! This has been a really fun build which I couldn't of done it without the help of my buddies Kyle, Nick, Purcell Power Camp and Jack who builds an amazing boat. For those of you who haven't had a chance to witness the QS1 in action I believe its the wave of the future in outboard drag racing. The midsection turned out amazing Chaz does incredible work I'm not gonna get into too much detail on the mid I'll leave that up to the discretion of Chaz. If you want to see it your gonna have to come to a race. Ok,everyone wants to know about the steering. There was only one part that I had concerns about and go figure that is what broke. The heim broke at the stem and I'll leave it at that. A big thumbs up to Capt. Danny for throwing a bad ass event we will be attending again.

Beautiful rig and some awesome tube work on that “spidey-web” mid. It always amazed me to see some of the creative stuff that outboard drag racers come up with.
That hull looks like it’s going to be a game changer too. I’ve looked at the videos posted several times now, trying to see when it planed, and still no dice.
Can’t find out anything about this mystery QS-1 hull?
I wouldn’t mind one of those myself. Might even sell my STV Mod-VP to get one.

Thanks. I’ve just sent him an email, coincidentally. He doesn’t have that model up on his website as yet. Thank god for people like him though, without which, the two-stroke outboard drag racing scene might have died already.
