And as far as I know, both the steering wings and the swivel bracket assembly were both made by Geiger Tec, so I’m sure they were designed to work together.
Here’s a zoomed out picture at a slightly better angle:

Thanks for the response. I am in no way challenging anyone's fabrication, just curious. For what its worth, when we rigged some SST120/SST140/CHAMP boats a while back the Mercury bars had to be cut to get the geometry right. I thought it strange to do that. Damn hard to take a band saw to a brand new Mercury racing part! I believe those were forward too. If memory serves me right, the cable loosened in the turn like that.

I designed those wing plates, you are correct about the pivot points. When I had Galen build me the first 3 mid sections he sent them without wing plates and kinda said "good luck".
One of the features we designed into that mid that now everyone has was the steering and trim pivot points were as close together are possible. The intent was to help reduce the change in motor height through the trim range. The negative was the axis were too close together for ideal steering. So the spacers became a patch to get it close, if you mount the pulley below the plate they will bind in 5-7 degrees.

A buddy of mine got one of those I phones that has 3 camera lenses on the back. The quality of those pictures is pretty amazing. It seems that all the other cell phone's take pictures that are sometimes good and others .. show a prop with one blade twice as long as the others .. LOL I always tell people take the picture from standing back a little, I can zoom in from there.
That being said .. yes, the push me ~ pull you steering works just as described ..
Thats why I gotz this high-tech template I use ......

I don't know who made this heavy-duty aluminum "template" ...

But it made setting up my location points for a bolt-on 2.5L "plate" a lil easier ....

lots of yacht racing gear has hollow blocks so you run a safety rope thru the block and to anywhere, no more catastrophic failure
not sure how they would survive with wire as thats gone from yachts, too heavy, not strong, fails when it looks good.

If you look at both Jack's green boat and Eddie's red boat, you won't see a "return wheel" on either one ... and that's not cable either ...

I've seen that type of set up on a few different rigs. Any more details about it Chaz?

C’mon man, don’t leave us hanging like that!
I noticed that as well. I’ve seen that clevis setup? before in a picture I found somewhere on the internet, but haven’t seen a good closeup of it. (Pic below).
i take it that such a setup uses a turnbuckle of some sort to take the slack out of the cable? Asking for a friend...

Hahaha. I think you know a lot more than you’re letting on...
I found another pic of one of these “unicorn” boats, and it’s got the same steering setup. There appears to be quite a bit of slack in the cable, ahem, NASA clothesline string. Much be pretty elastic... Hmmnn.
I don’t know who this Kevin Kearney dude is, but man does he take some awesome pics.
I got an awful feeling that my next boat is gonna look a lot like this:
