Heavier engines and boat design changes / Setup changes.

So I'm curious for anyone that knows the scoop, as engines get heavier what is being done on boats to compensate for the added weight? I know some manufactures are building hulls designed for the added weight, but what exactly is being done to help performance over a older standerd hull? Are the adding legnth, beam? What about existing hulls that get repowerd. For example a boat with a 300lb engine now with a 100 lb heavier engine and more power, what do you do to get the hull to perform as well or better, do you shift weight forward, add more/less setback or other tricks? With 4 strokes and etecs heavier than older 2 strokes it has me curious what steps are being taken to compensate since that is the way the market is heading, until they are able to get weight down if at all. If a existing hull can be modified what can be done to it to enhance it with the added extra weight.

exactly. A 21' tournament style bass boat of essentially any manufactur will float a new 250-300 four stroke nice and level all day long loaded to fish. Skeeter added the pads to the rear port and stbd. sides of the boat many years ago, supposedly to help float level when engines first started gaining weight, now they just build massive boats in general.

    Recommend hp reductions

an ‘05 v18 like mine is rated 150, my ‘06 is rated 115 after merc dropped the light 150 due to emissions standards.

It was later revamped to the hulking beast with a walk through window and brought back to 150.

A lot are also revamping models to “wide bodies” in the aluminum world but many have reduced hp rates.
