Using the correct seal installer and coating the outer seal surface where it sits in the carrier with red Loctite?
Dave1980 Cougar 19 tunnel,90 2.4L Bridgeport EFI in middle of restoration.

i used mercury installer and loctited them in ran it one trip was all good second trip got back and found the same problem i just dont understand what could be happening

Possible the area the seals go is worn and can't retain the seal properly. The end looks a bit beat up.

There is a chance that the exhaust does not have adequate water spray below the tuner exit . When this happens it will overheat the carrier quick . Hf...

i have been running this lower for 2 years with no problems after i added the billet stuff from madefi
what would cause the over heating if that may be what is happening ???

Drop the lower unit . Rig something to go from your garden hose to adapt to the water tube in your midsection . Turn a little water on and check to see you are getting streams of water below the tuner to cool things off . May need to make a few mods to correct things . We had an after market mid and adapter plate not long ago in the shop , it had a 300 xs on top and the air psi dump hose was plumbed wrong and ran awful . After market stuff sometimes needs a little tweaking . Hf...

After talking to the shop Tech at Reynolds about the earlier XS sportmasters overheating the seals, I now have Charlie and Ed do a complete seal replacement on mine every Winter. The OH a week ago showed that my gearset/internals still look "Brand New".
