New engines hitting transom.
So I got a pair of yam 150 to replace my 200 hpdi'
s. When I trim it up she hits the transome and did damage to the cover. I was thinking a 2" spacer of sorts would help and also keep my nose out of the water. Mounted on a bracket I have always had no reverse due to the wash hitting the bracket. A limit switch would help not hitting the transom. But my nose would still be sitting in the water. What is the rule of thumb for eng hight
and setback on a bracket ?Last edited by yachter55; 02-01-2020 at 09:17 PM. Reason: Wrong pic

Well.here is what I did. Cut 13"x 2" square tube. Drilled mounting holes and got longer bolts. Not pretty but it worked. The cover just hit but I thought it was 2 "" too close. An guessament. Well 1" would of fixed it as I have a 1-1/2" gap at the transome. Till I run it I don't know if it's to high or lo

In post above says 13in long 2in square tubing. Pretty much using it for 2 in spacer I think

I have a feeling that engine will crush the hollow tube in the rough. The spacers they sell are solid.

Yea might not happen first time but.. I would definitely buy some solid stainless or aluminum stock that tubing is going to crush and motors going to start bouncing around..
Or at least put solid spacers in the tube
Do you have plastic/lock nut washers on there can't tell from pic?

you would be better off playing it real safe and get 3 or 4 inch jack plates..... 2x2 tube is dangerous .
and having at an angle ( must have at angle for the bolt pattern) is even more dangerous.
with a small jack plate you can also raise it up a few and get better performance and clear everything...
