rookie needs help
Hi ,
Ive got a 87 or 88 mariner 115 inline 6 that I just rebuilt carbs on. serial number is OB350689. This motor does not have a dist, it has 2 switch boxes. Can someone give me the timing specs for this so I can do a link and sync. Dumb question but should the trigger for max advance go alway to stop when throttle is opened without the motor started, mine does not didn't know if that is normal or not? Also need octane and oil recommendations.
Thanks a lotLast edited by Biskitboy; 01-29-2020 at 09:19 AM.

You need a manual and follow the entire procedure for the link and sync, way more to it that hanging a timing light on it and checking.

Burn at least 91 octane, ethanol free if possible. I run a little fat on oil-a couple extra oz.per 6 gal. Make sure your water pump impeller is good, the top cylinder needs water. I backed my max timing off a couple degrees just to be safe. Do not lug your motor with too big a prop, they like to spin. Like Dave said ... get a manual.

I buy a lot of OEM Mercury factory service manuals on eBay. As others have said stay away from the aftermarket manuals.
Also if you can get 100LL aviation fuel that engine will run forever. The Merc inlines love av gas!Last edited by rhardwick; 02-06-2020 at 07:02 PM.
