Should I service the poppet valve?

I have a 2008 300xs with ~200 hours.

I've read here and there about servicing the poppet but it isn't routine maintenance as far as I can tell.

Should I service it? I know there's a how-to on here somewhere but I can't find it today.

Normally if you’re back flushing normally or not running in salt, or super silty/muddy water. You wouldn’t need to service the poppet.

if pressure starts looking wierd, or running in salt or bad water, it won’t hurt to service and clean.

On 300xs, the normal problem, is debris in thermostats. It will normally set a thermo. fault code. If you have, which you should, low water pickup, on bullet. That is first place to start. Simply remove thermo. hsg. Drop thermo., in water hotter than 160 degrees. When stat. opens up, remove debris. I also reccomend new style thermo hsg. that has gasket glued to it. Do not overtighten mini allen screws. Don,t mess with poppet unless you think there is a problem there.
