Thanks guys, their are some very good suggestions here. I appreciate them.
Chaz, you may be on to something with the breakin thing. Gas petal is a little stiff and it may ha e been in gear with the key on while i pumped it a few times... If that is it, how do i deactivate that???

One more thing to mention, the boat has the old style normal gauges but, it also has the smartcraft deal tie strapped under the dash. When i 1st got the boat it was working or, atleast was lighting up. Now it is dead. Not sure that it matters, just adding that into the equation. .

I put fresh one's in break-in mode every time. So it's a familiar shudder-studder.
I have a left and a right "test wheel" that I run in gear with a load on it/them for about a half-hour. If it's happy I put the cawl and real prop on the motor and go for a ride.
After another half hour between 2000 -4000 rpm it will "trust" you enough to run it wide open all you want. So it takes about an hour under a load to go thru the process.
The engine fuses (4 ) are in the little 2x2 square with red and purple wires just below and too the left of the starter solenoid. Check them and the harness with three or four block connectors from under the plenum to the front of the pan. Those run the smartcraft stuff ... just make sure they are tight. It shouldn't affect the way it runs, and actually, if you're not using that stuff, I'd unplug it and take it out of the boat.

2001 - 300X on 21' Liberator, laying down after 4000 rpm
I don't know if you have solved your problem yet or not but I had a similar issue with my 2004 Cougar 22MTR with a 300X on it. The boat had sat with gas in it for 5 or 6 years. I had the injectors cleaned and flowed, put a new fuel filter and cleaned the vapour separator out. I put fresh gas and a bottle of SeaFoam in each tank. It ran fine on the hose, so I put it in the lake. I ran great a couple of minutes, then it would slowly lose power and just idle. I pulled the fuel filter and it was full plastic. I would dump it out and go again with the same result. I discovered that plastic the liner in the fuel line which had broken down from using Ethanol fuel. I bought a 10 gallon portable tank and installed it with a new fuel line and primer bulb and it ran great for the rest of the summer. The next winter I pulled the tanks and rinsed them out with straight vinegar and put all new fuel lines in. Problem solved. Just a thought and I hope you get it sorted out.
