Cuz I needed another project ....
Saw this pop locally on Craig’s and couldn’t resist.
20’ Whaler. Very rare around here.
Was watching for a 17’ but I can put this together for same/less money.
Bought it for day trips but seeing what clean ones are worth...., we shall see.
The thing is giant!
It looks like someone put a 13’ in a copier and enlarged 65%.
Hull is rock solid and on a tandem galvanized trailer. Perfect for Fla visits.
All I need is a gear case and one piston to have a complete 225 looper.
Has a hydraulic helm and I have a ram.
Standard interior only gives seating for four so I’ll look at that.
Checkmate conversion gets finished first.Last edited by Instigator; 01-23-2020 at 08:59 AM.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Nice find, no bottom paint and on a bunk trailer, no dimples in the bottom. Did they give you a console with it?

Awesome find. Nice size to pull south. And no matter what, if you change your mind on it you will get your money back on it. I did up a old 13ft for the kids to keep on the beach a few years back, paided $1000. for it. I put like $1000. in to it, sold it many years later for $3200.. Preppy people will pay anything for these things. I wanted to weigh it when I had it stripped down to see if the foam had sucked up any water over the years, but it was winter and it was off the trailer.

Nice find.
Always liked Whalers.
That woodwork on the gunnels factory, or an add-on?
Looks like an easier project.. No gutting and restoring on the hull.James H. W2F a V-King... Want 2 Fly a V-King

Yes it came w/console.
No deformation to bottom.
Wood trim is factory. Not sure if I’ll refinish it or replace w/plasteak like I did on our cruiser.
Not sure on deadrise.
I towed it home then stashed it behind the barn so I don’t get distracted off the Convincor project.
On the 13’s, I grew up on them and learned to deep water start in a slalom behind one w/a 18 Rude in it.
Yrs back we did a Fla road trip/vacation and I bought one down there and terrorized Ft Myers Beach, Sanibelle, Captivate for a wk. An absolute blast!
Brought it home, redid the mahogany and doubled my money.
And saved a grand on boat rental.
Bought this one when we lived down there.
Bought a 50 hp OMC, installed trim, built a jack plate and went 48.6 GPS w/a home ground alum prop.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

48.6 is clipping along. We had a mariner 40hp no power trim ss prop. I thought it felt like mid 30's mph.

Thats probably right.
They need set back to run.
Mine was fastest w/me hanging off back seat, driving w/my feet.
Built a 4” jack plate but needs 6”.
Basically a crap hull for going fast so have to get it in the air.
Powe trim is almost as important.
I picked up over 5 mph w/trim.
Small boats really need it.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Yeah, could have really use the power trim. Could feel that running deep torque feel. Had a couple sties that I was going on that the guys were making brackets and actually had found trim for it but... wish I could remember those sites.
