Help identifying if Hydrostream core has been done or not......
Does anyone have pictures of how hydrostream cores look that are factory and what they look like after someone redoes them? I know a lot of variables for after but the before should be helpful. I bought a boat that may have had core work done by a previous owner. I thought there was a soft spot on the front of my pad was bad but after some reading seems guys are saying there typically isn't pad that far front on the YT haul...
Realized one thing to check I can try to find a spot to see if the spontunes are still filled with foam or not.
Any suggestions welcome just trying to figure out what I have

Here is brand new laid balsa core with polyester resin. Sorry I don't before pictures, the tear down happened before I got my hands on it. Dig around in the threads here and you can probably find some before they were torn apart. Post some pictures of yours, people here will be able to tell.

Here is about the best close up I could find with looking around online to what hydrostream did, a smooth horse hairish apperance with yes dark spots of rotted wood showing through
I decided what I can do this weekend is pull my gas tank to get some kind of access to take a look, tap around, drill some holes to see if I get wood or goo.
I will post some pics of what I find lol

Thats about right. The small spot of core that was left in my boat just had the chopper gun sprayed over top. Attached pictures is how that looked. It seems as though there wasn't a lot of consistency in the Hydrostream factory back in the day. I believe some boats may have gotten woven roving over the core as well. From what I've read a "tap" test isn't all that telling. The only real truth would be a drill test.
Here is a great write up about core also. https://www.hydrostreamforums.com/th...nd-where-it-is'78 Hydrostream Viking/'98 225 ProMax

I just removed the old core myself the hired someone to replace it. I went overboard and modified the bottom, it cost more than the boat was new!! I sold it to my nephew to keep it in the family because it's one of a kind now

Thats a good looking ride, Paul! Did you remove any foam or add core in the sponsons?

I didn’t dig into the sponsons , the boat never had a speedo pickup mounted on the sponson which is rare and a buddy of mine did his sponsons on his YT and his were dry and that is a TON of work!!! I just felt the sponsons have a very small running surface and I decided to roll the dice and leave them sealed up. It is very possible the foam in the sponsons could be somewhat wet and adding some weight but we’ve been running it in the 90 mph range for three summers and everything is holding up great!

thanks for adding more pics, Im about to go to my shop and take a look down in the back of mine and maybe down through where my seats are mounted. Im actually surprised for all the hate hydrostream gets for being sloppy when they built these boats that it looks like your floor was glassed top and bottom. Also notice floor looked better then the core you dug out.....

Notice I said most........ I could only get to a small area in the back to view the pad area and looks like the pad has really thin glass over it and I found a three inch spot that the wood was wet (confirms what I thought I heard with the Hamer test last weekend) and figure the length of the pad needs the core replaced
May not be that bad of a job though if I can keep my work area to just the pad area but only pulling the floor will let me know for sure if thats all it really needs, well besides needing a floor and interior that I already knew about

I think thats all original. The black gel coat and woven roving makes me think this way. The first set of core pictures looks like it was sealed up well from the factory, nice and dry, and it does have woven roving over top. The second set, not so much. Like you said you'll see more once the floor is up.
