60,000 BTU natural gas furnace along with a 1.5 ton AC unit for the summer. Both are the old ones out of my house when I put in a new high efficacy unit. Batt insulation in the walls(R13 I think) and 30" of blown in fiberglass in the attic(about R60) 5/8" sheet rock on the walls and ceiling. It will take the garage from 65 to 80 no problem when I crank it up after a big layup and will take it from 90 and humid to 70 in about 45min. With the new high efficacy unit in the house and the old one in the garage the utilities didn't really change.

I am sure that with the snow a heat pump is not feasible up there but I love both of mine. My larger Trane 2 stage w/2 compressors is tied to a hot gas desuperheater which gives me all of my hot water for free year round.

I think I go through Coon Rapids on my way to 10 mile lake in Hackensack just south of Walker. Are you in that area?

Yep, if you take Hwy 10 on the north side of Minneapolis you come right past my house in Coon Rapids. I can see Hwy 10 from my garage, the sound wall at least. My family used to rent a cabin on Pleasant Lake in Hackensack when I was a child. Great area.

I gotta say I'm a little jealous of that time capsule Vector you picked up. That is such a pretty boat, I'm glad someone is fixing it up right. That will be sweet when its finished and back on the water!

As I read through these - I'm always looking on the right at your location -
At least it hasn't frozen over the harbor here ... yet.
Supposed to be a balmy 45* this weekend!

With the new gas they charge them with now there good down to 17 degrees f. After that you need a regular furnace.

No, sorry. A couple years ago we had some hot weeks. A buddy of mines wife works for a large heating cooling contractor. They had the guys put in a new fuel oil furnace and a heat pump in there home as they didn't have a/c and are a 1/4 mile from gas main. They also put a pump in his business because they didn't have air in the offices and a older furnace. That was like 2 years ago, then about 1 year ago they changed the gas out to go down to 17 degrees. the first gas only went down to like 27.?.

The new refrigerant is probably HFC 410A which has no chlorine but has a global warming factor of 3000 [3K times that of CO2] and will probably be banned the next time a Democrat President is running the EPA. The smaller of my two Trane heat pumps is HFC 410A and has already had the all-aluminum indoor coil fail [3 months before it was out of warranty]. I changed the coil myself and Epoxy/Zinc coated it to make it last longer.
