Omc gearcase
Just finished up my nosecone on an omc gearcase. Pinion bearing was locking up after 3 revolutions. I assumed it was from tack welding the water inlets. Pulled it apart and installed a new pinion brg. It is going back together but the drive shaft is stiff. I can turn it but never seen or noticed this before. Any body with any advice on this one.

welding the water inlets may have caused the pinion bearing bore to shrink and/or go out of round.

The Bearing is tapered, did u put it in upside down if the housing is a littlle tight with bearing in wrong it may cause it to be tight. Taper is why they tell u not to drive the old one out the bottom when removing...

Agree with H2O and if driven out the bottom you break off the lip. I have welded many over the years but always left them together when doing so. If the bearing is in the correct direction you need to check the case alignment with the factory tool.
