    Mercury 280 crank lower bearing

I purchased a lower bearing for the crankshaft and comparing the new one is a little different than the one that was removed. The number is the same. I am wondering if there is no issue in using the new one. Here are some pictures. Your feedback will be appreciated.Click image for larger version.

If "buck riveting" was the preferred method of construction a century ago, and though updated over the years .. and is still in use today. I would have to choose a bearing cage built the same way over polyamide / bakelite (plastic) any day ...

I have seen the plastic ones get soft and fall out.......then bearings bunch up on one side and fall out.

As Markus pointed out ... EXPLODER class bearings ...

Chaz=thinkin, if lube was a problem, Merc wouldn't use the lower bearing area as a sump to feed the top bearing .. and some models vacuum that pocket of excess oil and put it in # 6 ...
