Vector prop help
Hi,
I hope you guys can suggest where I go from here. I’ve got a 74 Vector I with a 74 inline 1500 all 100% stock, all are 100% healthy restored kept motor on transom just as designed. I have run various stock Merc props 26 chopper does about 70, 24 Laser does a tad better than the chopper and a 28 cleaver does a tad better than the laser. The cleaver is a bear to get on plane, the laser handles best but does not ventilate much so take offs bog motor till up on plane, the chopper seems to be a reasonable compromise but slowest of the group. My issue is all these allow motor to rev to 6300 to 6400 and I’d like to step that down a bit. I tried a 26 laser and could not get on plane motor was so bogged down, huge difference than the 24 laser, just no bottom end grunt with the in line.
I’m thinking to try a 28 chopper but so much has changed on prop mods I’m wondering what type chopper I should be looking for or have modified. Where in line props are getting scarce I’m planning on needing to get a V6 prop (large ear)and have dia cut down to a small ear but what’ll run best on top end? Stock? Off shore cut? Drag cut? Other? I see a lot of 28’s already modified various ways so thinking I’ll buy the right mods and reduce the dia. Or should I get an unmodified V6 one cut to a small ear and go from there?
I’ m sure that means at least 500 bucks before I spin it and if it doesn’t work I’ll be SOL as there are so few people that would be looking for a prop modified this way.
Of course if some one has a 28 in line chopper...let me know!
Guidance please!
Thanks,
Randy

Have you ever tried a Lightning ET? I know some like this with V6 on a Vector.

Beautiful boat. I ran a 28 Hoss that was shaved down some when I had the xs on my vector. It would do 76-78. Hole shot was okay. 65-6600 rpm. I think I had a six inch set back..maybe a 4 1/2. Set up just a little higher than where it would be bolted to the transom. There was a 30 humpback cleaver 4 blade that ran really sweet but it was thinned down so much and had a pretty wild curl on the blade tips it didn't last too long before it cracked.

Looks like 6. That was the 30 cleaver, tossed half a blade on the way home. I see your running a 20 inch mid so a little engine height may help too.
