    Cutting down E-Tec mid

    Hey everyone,
I must be using the wrong search words or something...
I have an Allison Grandsport I'm restoring and the idea of a cut down etec on the back is in my head. Although I cannot find a write up on exactly what I need to do (the right way) to cut the mid down. Anyone can fill me in or send me to a post that can?

    Thank you 2.5

But OMC stuff should go to either Monty Racing Engines or Kevin (baja200merc)

    My bad .. your 100% correct ..

I just text him .. He's in my phone as LTOMCTC

That would be "Lake Tarpon OMC Test Center"

Before he got .. old, married and a homeowner ..

Their slogan was ... We test at midnight !

( Ohh how I wish I was young again )

I'm located in Bermuda, so if it's a process I can get done here it would likely save me alot of money on shipping!
Unless someone state side is willing to assist in me purchasing an engine in the states, cutting it down, and shipping to Jersey or Florida if they arent already there.

Others will b along to help shortly , cutting the mid down and welding everything back together and keep it perfectly straight. Can b a job but if not done correctly u will loose it lower unit ,prop , and possibly ur boat if ur goin fast enuff if it breaks a weld or sumthin. Baja200merc shoot him a PM, pretty sure he in Florida to

Thanks guys! Also thought through the fact that any motor I buy here will have been salt water use, probably not a good idea if i need to have it cut and welded.
Will PM Baja and hopefully he can help me out.

Getting an aftermarket 16" mid from Sam Jenkins would be a far better option as its stronger than a factory mid, especially a cut one. With that being said, there is a lot to it. The shortening of the clamp assembly and tiller then re welding is required. Jenkins mid uses a lower mount that is a far cleaner setup than modifying the factory knuckle also. There really isn't an instruction manual for it. Click image for larger version.

I think around 1300 or so for the housing. All you need to do is modify the clamp assembly for it. Click image for larger version.

    Love the look L.G. ...

Just curious, is that a 15" or 16" can ?

Looks to be about 2*- 3* tucked under. Does the front of the can hit the lower cylinder boss / pin area if you go under any farther ?

Is there any type of lower guide's put back anywhere ?

I'm finishing up a single ram / 15" V-8 for one of G's guys. I'll try to remember to snap some pics tomorrow. 10 lbs of **** in a five lb bag aint it ... LOL

16" can. It can tuck under much further than that pic. Here's a more recent setup of mine, not an etec but still same mid setup. This has the integrated clamp with Jenkins 16" mid. Click image for larger version.
