I weld up the merc bolt pattern and redrill it to omc then do the shaft and make the omc water pump work so it’s as factory as it gets. We logged thousands of miles I’ve converted about 15 so far it’s an expensive process but with the right setup it’s can be worth 15 mph thanks to the gear. With my big prop it does 90mph at 4700 and I’ve been 118 (in less than ideal conditions) at 5800-5900 with way more to go. The big prop has broken a lot of sporty parts so I usuallt just ride around with a 30 which still runs high teens at 7k

Actually depends on what your doing read baja200merk post they use the 1.62 gearing and will be much faster..
But I
Should have worded title different but..
Looking into what will hold up to being surfaced
Best, is actually what I want.. it may just be what I've got is what I've got...mine are pinned and change the fluid often.
I had one go on me from surfacing it, but might just be it and to bad..
And might just be cheaper to buy/rebuild a lower if it goes again
I can't use that kind of gearing because of my motors.. compression , porting and weight.. need the 1.87

Way too many variables to make that claim. Sportys work well 2” above the bottom. The main benefit is the big gear but we just got the first set of 1.60 gears for m2 etec cases which i plan to prove the fact that the type of case or shape does not matter when it’s not in the water. Decent skeg and torque tab will run with no nose cone. I’ve already been 105 with no cone it doesn’t matter because it’s bone dry anyway.

This is a video of my sporty/etec on the mirage i use to own. Kevin adapted this one a while back. As you can see not much case is in the water. I am running a 1.62 and 32 et in the video. I do believe the sportys hold together better than stock omc stuff but I would keep an original case with a cone if you are wanting to stay with stock gear ratio. Biggest advantage is going to be
The ability to goto a 1.62.

Kevin where did you get the gears? Have them custom made?

no The m2 has a water cavity in the nose so all you have to do is close up the 6 factory holes and drill one by the drain hole for that cavity it puts the water pickup as low as a sportmaster on the bottom of the cone. That’s how I got water yrs back on my t1 with an m2. The limiting factor was 1.85 gear now we fixed that with 1.60
Yes the conversion will be drastically cheaper than a sportmaster. It requires big diameter and high engine height since the m2 is rather large.

locked in gear but maybe we should graft a bravo lower on and then maybe a bravo duo prop?
( ok a bit of work to get the water pump setup)
