    Taking paint off a block

Whats the best way to take paint off a Merc block? I used sand blaster a long time ago and didn't how long it took to clean the sand out. Is there some type gel or liquid paint remover that you guys have used? Thanks

Mariner paint is easy to get off...merc paint is not. But then again, the sun takes mariner paint off on its own, but it doesn't peel merc paint in the same way.

Look for "methylene chloride" as the active ingredient. Thats the good stuff. The EPA started cracking down on it last year so get it while you can.

I have used soda numerous times for cleaning the paint off of an engine block. When you are done, wash it with soapy water and soda is gone. And it doesnt hurt the aluminum or anything..........but be warned...............the snot is gonna run if you dont wear a respirator..........I just felt it was a way to clean me out.....like eating a good bowl of chili!! no harm to me just made the snot run..........

I will use soda anytime I blast an outboard motor. ....
