    Stuck Prop

Inherited this lower unit, which appears otherwise to be good, with a prop stuck on it. Tried spraying all kinds of penetrating oil inside it, and have been pounding on it (the prop blades) for weeks in this positon with a small sledge hammer and piece of metal. It’s not budging.

Even tried applying heat but it caught on fire. I think it was the rubber inside the hub that caused that.

Any ideas how to free this up?

Edit..was assuming your not worried about the prop?

    Have you tried a puller?
Have even used a cheaper puller, cut some holes in the prop for the puller to hook into.
And try CRC frezze off it took stuff that wasn't budging..
Sprayed that on liberally on the nuts came right off

W/o spending a bunch of money on a prop puller

Maybe I'll try some of that CRC frezze. Any recommendation on a brand of puller?

If you want to try and save the prop. get a Hole Saw that will fit just over the prop shaft without touching it. Cur the hub with the hole saw until there is no more metal. Remove prop. Then with a sharp chisel or (preferably a thin cut off wheel split the remaining stuck piece of hub and everything will come right off.

Also this might sound weird but if you can heat up the shaft just enough to get a candle to melt on it and draw the wax in it will come off..wax will melt before the seal but still.. careful
Better yet if you can heat the prop but if rubber hub not likely to work
BUT NOT ENOUGH TO RUIN THE LOWER UNIT SEALS
Only reason I didn't mention it before..
I keep a couple in my tool box

Those pullers seem pretty rare. Good idea though. I'll see what I can find.

Did you take the nut off? Sorry always gotta ask.

Is it corrosion or did the splines get twisted.

Its not not healthy for the gears. You can put in gear and use a hammer to delock the splines by alternating walking the prop clock and counter wise.

A post type jack. And Chain is deadly effective. Takes good chain
