Plugging relief holes
I’ve searched and read multiple posts about running 2.7 heads and plugging the relief holes on OMC 3.0s. I have a 92 200xp on a 92 Stratos 201 pro xl plus I picked up a 95 200 venom with a 99/00 powerhead. I was wondering who if anyone has just plugged the relief holes without swapping or shaving the heads and if so, what if any difference it made? I ask this because I’m trying to get a better hole shot out of this tank. I’ve worked on set up a lot with different props and height adjustments and have had to settle with a 13.5X25 shooter. I have a 14.5X24 raker, 14.5X23 tempest, and a 14.5X25 razor but the shooter is the only one that doesn’t struggle to get it on plane. Sorry for the long thread but thought it may help for suggestions. Thanks

Yes it's done can plug just the reliefs..
When I've done it was good for 10-15#s
And can use the newer 93+ and up head gaskets good for another3-5#s
can get the part #if you want
and if you don't mind the noise can drill the lower to relieve exhaust too...
I never did (didn't need to)but might want to check the pistons.. after, jet up a little on the mains
It definitely helped the hole shot and mid range
And can never give to much info on setup when asking..
Meaning it's not long

by going from a 92 open deck with no boost ports to a 99 closed deck with boost ports should help out your hole shot ...more than plugging the relief holes...

Yes I was asking about the 92. It’s what is still on the boat. I picked up the other one a couple of months ago at one of those deals I couldn’t pass up. I’ve been cleaning the carbs and getting it to where I can eventually put it on the boat but I would like to see if I can get the motor that’s on it now running a little stronger. If the motor that’s on the engine stand runs stronger than the one that’s on it now, Not sure what I’ll do with the one I don’t use. May just hang on to it for parts or a spare. I’m gonna try to find the larger carbs and throttle bodies but may have to wait till after the holidays to feed the hobby. Thanks and I appreciate any and all suggestions!

If/when your looking I have 225 carbs w 3 screw butterflies (larger throttle body) and might have a set of higher compression open deck heads..
Yea always nice to have a spare that way you never need it.

You so right Michael, That’s exactly what I’d like to do to the motor that’s on it now! I would be interested in the heads, carbs, and butterflies. I’m still getting educated on these old 2strokes. I bought this boat back in April and found out quick I was gonna have to learn how to work on it myself being disabled and what it was gonna cost to carry to a shop. I’ve always done my own work on mowers and most minor repairs on vehicles I’ve owned so I ordered a factory service manual and a parts catalog. They have already paid for themself for what I have learned.

If you have those heads send me pm and I’ll see if “Santa” will get them for me. I have to admit that I have a great wife, but I don’t want to push my luck if you know what I mean.

Actually have had the boat for just over 15 years
And two years ago one of the motors ate a Reed stop not a Reed the actual stop and trashed the motor and I lucked into the motors I have now that are a combination of stuff
The props on there now are 28 mazcos re..which seems a little small but the motors are setup to spin higher so work well.
Motors didn't take that long
I just built those motors last year James Perry did all the porting, piston and machine work(did an awesome job) I did the rest put them together and some modifying.
Have some pics of stuff can show you later
But this is what next over the winter

You are set up strictly for play and ain’t a thing wrong with that. Mine is mainly for fishing but I want to be able to get where I want to go without it bogging down and the bow pointing at the clouds for 15-20 secs. Before i can see where I'm going.
