FMP - I wondered the same but thought with the centre bolt covers it would be TBI and think the possibility of it being of being vortec - next gen by minamum looking at the head numbers - i believe that is reverse cooled and roller cam . Should have a tag on the block from Merc. ID of the HP and year . I had recently placed a call to my dealer for a 88-95 350 longblock "new" and they were only 2800 and they had 3 hundred available - so doubt the gen 3 is any more than a grand more new. Make the call and if it'I 3800 I think its cheap and just unfold your accessory drive on and change over intake and such -if your serious get the tag info - tin tag and or head number and make an effort to know if it' carb or TBI . Does look clean . New from GM is cheap if you have a decent truck but I will say sometimes it' cheap to just buy a newer piece what happened to the other block - i thought they were 5.3 . Usual intake leak cause the coolant into crankcase? I don' like to suggest a differant route but sometimes it' can make sense to upgrade if you take the time to think about it but your truck is worth little not running so make it a runner again . I know that wasn' the question here so dig for the tag o n the motor - side of the block peened on . Check for carb or TBI , head numbers block numbers - if it' cheap keep digging.

Number right under the Mercruiser sticker ? Maybe a 94

Home made Tunnel could use both for his motor yacht.

I can' read it - i thought Merc used a tin tag over on the fuel pump side of block and I believe if it was vortec - 95 up it would have a plastic cover over the TBI and intake just like the trucks - i think you may be on the money with the gen 2 88- 94 .

Definitely a carb tbi intake. Not the later 90 turtle shell. I see more valve cover bolts like the 4 bolt or 2 bolt Been a while since I counted cover bolts.

I dont see the electronics though except the choke, so would need that if tbi.

Honestly i I don’t like photos just blur enough I can’t zoom in in a number any decent cell phone these days is that good.

Dont forget the valve cover studs went to the centre for a few years before the inlet bolts went vertical like a vortec.
I dont think cars did that did they?
You should be able to find the gm date code on the engine and the original serial number which Merc keep rocords on in case gm has a recall

See if one of those stickers on the bell housing is the serial # I've seen Mercury do this, and also stamp the serial # in the block just above the circ pump on the right side
