First time engine rebuild

Where can I get this part and if I can even get a new one. Sorry not sure what it's called. Also where is a good place to get gaskets and bearings? This is a 2.5 200

Hmmmm! automatic oiler gear, think about it why would you put it back , in over 400 mercury motors i have rebuilt this part was number one reason it blew up just my .o2 , pro marine or merc .net for rebuild parts/ gaskets

FWIW - this motor is still running 3 years later on premix with the oil plug and the bad worm gear.

Ok I figured it was something for the oil injection which it no longer has. I'll just take it off and continue on with the build. Thanks!

Should probably leave gear in place. Make sure there is nothing loose that can come off. Removal of gear will reduce crankcase pressure in that hole and make motor a bit lazy.

Rock nailed it. It gives stuffing for crankcase just dont try use a oil pump. Premix

I agree with Texas and Rock.
Leave it in place unless it’s damaged or coming apart. You like to have something in place there.
ProMarine sell it if you need to replace it.

Hey Big nice video work on the stripped gear ,is this the same Big Shrimping that sold a lot of Mercury v6 parts on ebay a few years ago??? If so man i bought quite a few parts from you mister and all at a really good price my eBay name is 260Texas

I will smooth it out and keep it in then, there were quite a few shavings all over the bottom bearing

the bottom bearing area is important that it be keep clean it good you found these shavings because the gas oil mixture that puddles down there oils the top bearing via the small hose that goes directly to the bearing good job

and very important info! It starts by clogging that little screen on the check valve.
While you have things apart I suggested to take it apart, make sure it is not coming apart, give it a good cleaning and remove any pieces that maybe sharp or about to come loose. I have bought plenty from Pro just to be safe.

Hi Bobby - that's me. Thanks again for supporting my bad habit I really enjoyed cobbling together 2.4L, 2.5L, 3.0L Craigslist motors and unloading the parts I didn't need. I am not really active anymore with the buying or selling, but I have a great collection of motors..
