gearcase identity
Can anyone identify this old gearcase? My old OMC friend found it in a tool box belonging to his friend that passed away.
I was cleaning out a old tool chest and found this G/C Pinched between the Drawers. Would you happen to know what make is it and what engines did it attach too? any info would help. . There is a Stamped mark , looks like a letter F . The vertical Driveshaft has 6 splines. Prop shaft diameter is .580 . Bullet diameter is 2".225. The length is 8-1/4 " With 2 to 1 gears. The distance between the mounting stud's is 3 5/16" or 85 mm . I Think it was set aside for a desk lamp conversion , but if some one needs this for a restoration project , I would it go there. Cheers Patrick Eves

Its an old OMC case, probably a Johnson from the mid-late 30's Possibly an aftermarket case, but they usually had some id on them somewhere. The time for collecting 1930's stuff, even race stuff, is long gone.
Someone on the AOMC Facebook page would give it a new home

Johnson A class lower unit
The 30's B, C class Johnson racers were 2 cylinder opposed motors and had 3/4" propshafts. In 1930 Johnson came out with a 2 cylinder alternate firing twin fishing motor and a race version for the A class. I'm not sure what the prop shaft size was but this lower, I'm sure is from an A class Johnson. I have attached a pic of one of the motors that I used to have. Mine had an aftermarket unit. The above unit appears to be a Johnson unit with the skeg removed.
