    300xs mount bolts

2010 300xs. As I passed by my engine a day or two ago, I noticed a rusty area on the swivel bracket. I compared to the other side and the bolt had completely corroded, and it appeared the head was gone. Makes me question if these bolts are stainless, or I guess someone broke the head off that one prior to my ownership. I considered replacing with 1/2" stainless bolt , but then thought maybe the mount bolts are a diff grade bolt than standard 316 ss. I ordered new bolts from Merc, but wonder if anyone knows if those mounting bolts are stainless steel?

Also, I need to remove the spiral retaining ring from the yoke to get these upper mounting bolts out. Not sure that I've ever seen a spiral retaining ring. Any tips before I use a flat screwdriver to back it out?

If the anodes are shot it wouldn’t be impossible for even ss to electowhatever.

I normally stick to merc bolts. to many stainless coated and alloys out there. Unless I’m positive one is better. Like the steering bolt.

Not sure on the retaining ring books not handy to check befor I put my foot in my mouth. Sure it’s not a spring lock washer.

Buy a new retaining ring too. The bolts are m12 x 190 and better ones can be sourced than what merc used

ARP makes some really stout ones.

Thx, I will get a new retaining ring. Svc manual describes it as spiral retaining ring.

For my serial no, it uses the old style bolt that is 1/2-13 instead of metric. Ah well, I'll just go w what I ordered as far as bolts go.
