Lower crank seal on v6 merc

Have another question; is there a seal of sort in the adaptor plate[2pc] or is the powerhead seal in carrier it? meaning the driveshaft just passes thru adapter cleanly?

The guys above gave you the answer! Yes, its made to fit snug on the DS.
Its common to find them sitting on the plate or on the DS above water pump top or laying in the plate. Most times it will be on DS.
Actually many guys run without even knowing it fell off when it falls on the plate. I do not recommend running without one.
I have made a habit to peak up there when LU is off especially in salt water and short midsections.

I use a short broom handle with tapered end to sit the seal on and like mentioned with a little loctite tap it lightly back in place.
VERY IMPORTANT DO NOT TAP OR HIT HARD just enough to place it back! Also wipe outside of seal and inside crank so loctite will hold.

#5 should be the rubber seal inside #4, they usually come as one piece.

As mentioned the seal comes as a assembly. if its come apart Buy a new one. I keep a couple around all the time. But Ive found that if you run a bead of red loctite around the rim before tapping it into the Crank it wont come out unless you make it.Pt# 54196A 6.

Iso have that seal lock-tite back in, but i also have newseals that go behind that cast plate, attached by 4 1/420 bolts. to remove that plate read loosen block bolts? dont see any bolts except case bolts. guy posted he couldnt get that plate off. now im hesitant to try. looks simple but powerhead is hanging by flywheel. with the bolts out. can i grab the collar with channel locks, rotate it, while applying downward pressure? think other guy gave up, put the bolts back in. dont want open a basket of snakes at this point. but due for new seals im sure.
