I hope to own one someday. Not high on the priority list right now but one of these days it will be.

When they tell you it costs $30000 they put most people off. Never have found out why $7000 worth of materials and lobar costs that much and thats being very optimistic on what it cost to build a 20 foot low profile boat these days.

If there were annual sales of 20,000 units or more im sure retail pricing could be in the 5-10K range but with a few hand built hulls per year? 30k is CHEAP. A good HotRod build starts at 50K if you provide the car. 30k hull 20k motor and rigging for a brand new HotRod boat? Sounds about right. The issue is from what I can see is people are dropping 100+ grand into new boats or buying older used cheapos. That middle range market is not funded well enough. I have commented on this issue in other economic related topics. The real goal is to get the average person earning substantially more income so they have money to buy something like a 30-50K boat, with cash instead of credit. That will solve a LOT of thingsHydrostream dreamin

You're probably looking at closer to 10-15k in QUALITY materials to build a 20' hull and not much less to do a 18', 17', 16', or 15' hull. Now add in labor to prep the molds, lay them up, assemble, etc. Now add rub rail, interior, nav/dock lights, bilge pump, gauges, etc and you're at 30k real quick. The guy that wants a cheap poly and balsa layup totally bare need not apply because he couldn't even afford that (and that's why that's all he wants because it's the CHEAPEST option).
If you want one, go out and buy an old Hydrostream, Action, Allison, etc and restore it yourself. If you think I'm wrong about any of the above buy one of those old boats (but probably not an Allison ) and pop a set of molds. Drop the money on materials and build one. Prove me wrong. I'll hold my breath while the buyers line up and place their deposits...

I'll have to agree with this. If u REALLY break it down piece by piece. The money will go very very quick. I say close 10k n material to do it rite and last. That's doin the work ur self. Sure u can go the cheaper route but that's quality material.

Im sure it helped their margins dramatically. If they WANTED to they could sell them much cheaper but they dont have to. They price them competitively with US built boats and pocket the savings. I have a cousin that works for an American company and crosses the border into Mexico 5 days a week to their manufacturing facility. Not a boat company but same situation.

I love venoms best looking boat out there i had a brand new 07 model mine was just two thin for lake use stayed beat up its still winning races in dsra now it needed to be a full time race boat. I have been in several others and built quality and fit and finish just isnt there!!the main thing that scares me about venom is that of the 50-60 total boats built at least 10 have blew over!! Not very good odds in my book but dam they sexy!!!

I would blame Alcohol more than design, Allison stories are abundant...

Seems like more Allison’s have been over the last few yrs than any other Hull. I’ve owned & Raced several venoms , never had 1 do anything unpredictable. As Cuda mentioned , most accidents are usually contributed to driver error or poor setup . IMO a Venom is as safe as any other if set up with a short Trim ram.
