[QUOTE=CDave;3173828]Can't believe Ford would call that SUV a Mustang. Those that don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

While not crazy about applying the Mustang name to a plug-in crossover, I think Ford realizes the same thing Porsche did: You have to have a soccer mom product to support the sports car line. i.e. the Cayenne. I would never own a Porsche SUV, but it did save the company.

The Mustang II actually sold very well. Of course I would not take one as a gift. Porsche sells SUVs and all the sports car makers are now as well. Ford may as well cash in if they can.

I remember the Mustang II. Ford wasn't the only one to make lack luster cars in the 70's-80's. What I was getting at is the Mustang II is a redheaded stepchild in the Mustang world.

The Mustang II was a sport bodied Pinto base that would compete with the Vega and the Camaro. 4 cylinders would run right with the Vega. The V6 and the V8 would compete with the Camaro 6 and 8 engines.

I always thought the Cobra II was cool looking as a 14 yr old seeing them new at the dealership.

I had a friend that had a Mercury based Pinto. A Bobcat that had a V6 that he was messing with. It would run pretty good, but I don't remember any Pintos with V6s.
