35HP Evinrude: exhaust thru or solid Prop?

Help; I have a 1983 35hp rude exhaust tru hub. if I want to get a solid prop(chopper/cleaver); Would it suffice to drill a 1" hole on each side above cav plate to relief exhaust? What would be the best or right way?

ID:	452699It's a 14' Fiberglass about 400 pounds. I've ran it with stock 10x15 and can only get it to about 33mph. I'm trying to get it going between 40-50mph, not trying to brk any speed record.

A new prop is NOT what you need. Start with about a 60 horse motor and go from there.

Sounds like you're running pretty good already for a 35hp and a boat that size. If you want to go faster you need a bigger motor as suggested above.

The heaviest weight I can handle is about 100-120 pounds, I don't have lift capability. I have about 10 Jonnys/rudes 25/35hp that I'm rebuilding and i use that 400lb boat to test them. Two of them are shortshaft that I will try to trick them a bit to squeeze a few more Hp's and get a few more MPH....on a budget.

I like the idea of trying to get more..... but ya fighting a up hill battle.....could try some air trap runners on the bottom of the flat bottom hull.......those newer rudes were not like old motors of the past..... probably not too much room for mods......most racers were running 100 hp on a like boat in the old dazz......

Sam, what rpm are you running to get 33 mph? That is a cross-charged design and as such has it's limits. I love those 35's and ran one for years without any problems. Gordon

I didn't have the Tiny Tach with me that day, but I always carry a Delorm P20 GPS.
    - I run with 128R CCMS reeds
-Removing the Air box or Carb silencer, I notice I get about 2Mph more, I've tested this many times.
-When I adjust linkages on carb, I make sure that the throttle butterfly is perfectly flat horizontal at full.
-Also cav plate was about 1" higher than bottom of boat.

I will try to mount both short shaft for testing, but how can I get one turn left and other right? Run one in rev with left turn prop and the othr in Fwd with right turn prop? I'm new to tricking outboards, so any help is appreciate.

Twins would look kool.......but just as or more than a good single....see what you can find such a omc 70 hp......You can't run a gearcase in R to get twins... it will wipe out the gearcase.

You'll probably not find a counter rotating prop, putting the drive in reverse and running it will only blow the drive. You can run them both turning the same direction.
