    Flywheel problems

So my flywheel dropped a couple of magnets and played havoc at the top of my motor. Now I am having lots of problems finding a suitable one to replace it. The motor is a donor powerhead and I can’t find a serial number on it anywhere (I believe that’s on the clamp which is long gone). The engine is a Merc Black Max 175 2.5l carb approx 1992. The flywheel is a red thing with 24 splines. Will any flywheel with the right splines suit or is magnet placement a big issue?

I do not suggest to play with magnets. Just get a black cast iron 40amp flywheel. With a 175 your not going to feel the difference!

Any 40 Amp Mercury V6 Flywheel will work. NOW!!! When you say "played Havoc on the top of your motor" Did it damage the stator or trigger when it dropped the magnets? If so you might need more than just a flywheel.

Yeah, it’s killed the stator... the trigger is okay. My main concern was the lack of commonality between flywheels... and the part number doesn’t seem to exist. If anything will work, I’ll find one pretty easily nearby. Thanks for the tips
