Verado Power Steering Bypass
On a boat with twin 2007 200hp Verados, the operator was offshore and lost power steering. They were unable to manually steer the boat and ended up with a tow back to port. Has anyone ever put a bypass valve in the steering to bypass the power steering pump and revert to manual steering in the event of a steering failure?

Shy of a hose breaking or loosing fluid the steering system should work with the pump off. Its VERY heavy but should work.

Yes, that is the experience I had once before with a pair of 150 Verados . We took the power steering off and went to standard hydraulic on those. I just went up to the boat and tried to turn the wheel with power off and I physically could not turn it. This boat does research offshore and in the event of a pump failure I’d like for them to be able to steer the boat back
