Mercury 260 block weld question
A friend of mine when and looked at a 260 powerhead today and he noticed there was a dime sized weld on each cylinder close to where the cylinder meets crankcase was just curious what that might be ?thanks

Most likely started life as 245 carb engine (same block) and someone has removed the bleed fittings required for a carb set up and has welded them.

Ok thanks....do you see any issues that could cause leak down and compression on engine are great

Post a pic. If it's a 245 there will be a kk block stamped on the side. 260 blocks have an LL or PP on the side.

Probably has some porting done on the sides of the rod slots. They are pretty thin at that point and its not uncommon to see welds or epoxy there
