Doug Wright and Todd Defilipps designed that pad on a napkin while we at dinner one night. Doug laid it up by hand and it worked perfect. My guess is that it was 10" wide, I put the smallest setback plate that I had as I figured it was going to be bow light and it was but a little weight in the nose and we were good to go. We glassed the cap completely and built a permanent seat back that also tied the sides of the boat in to make it more rigid. I had a 13 as a kid and one of my friends had a 15 so I had a vision of what I thought the ultimate little whaler would have been for me back then. It was a project but served its purpose well for a stepping stone "we are now in the process of putting that same motor on my son's STV (next step)".

All of the whalers ive owned had curved transoms. installing a jack plate would require some mods to bolt up flat? newer models might have flat transoms. i had some old paperwork, showing where and where not to drill. there are wood panels in spots built in hull at the factory. they were for the early whalers.

Thanks for posting those pics, I've been trying to get in touch with the guy who used to owned it through youtube and 2 other forums but unfortunately no luck. Getting most of my ideas from his project and another guy, that is a great looking whaler for sure.

The whaler I got already have a jack plate but manual, will be upgraded to a hydraulic, the 15 classic do have a flat transom.
