    19' Liberator prop recommendations

Hello, I'm new here. Just purchased a 1994 19' Liberator tunnel hull with a 2005 Mercury Optimax 225. Has a 20" mid., 1.75 gear, hyd. jackplate, engine has no mods. With a 27p Tempest plus I was able to hit 77 mph running out of prop. Switched to a Quicksilver Chopper 2 with 28p and holeshot is actually better. Got it up to 76mph from a dead stop in under 1 mile. Had to get out of it because turn coming up. Best that day was 78 mph, but still seem to be running out of prop. I'm thinking of trying a 30p or 32p chopper or maybe even a cleavor to get me past the 80 mph mark and hopefully 85+. Any suggestions on prop style, pitch, number of blades, etc? What about engine mods? I know there arent many for the Opti, but was thinking of a lightened flywheel and rev limiter extend. Seems like a few extra hundred rpms could net a few mph. And of course a nose cone or sportmaster lower eventually.

If u got ur lower coned and jack it up , u will definitely need new prop. it will gain alot rpm. Choppers r made to chop , if u got it buried it will kill rpm ,top speed, hole shot

Dont have nose cone yet, but do jack it up to 1" below bottom of hull, then trim according to rpm limit. Maybe I need to raise one hole on mounting plate.

Your on the right track with going up . Joe Perog a solid member here mentioned to use a 4 blade - they scrub a little top end but are easier on drive and provide more bite in your cruising midrange . Once you get used to your upper limits - you will find your airing out and cruising more and enjoying what this mod vp hull performs like. Water pressure watch it when your aired out. Have fun

I had a 19 daytona with 3 different merc BP and a 260. So not as heavy as an optimax. The hulls are similar depending on which 19 you are talking about. My boat loved the choppers. I tried a lot of props on it and nothing ran up top like a chopper. The drag type blade props all drove weird in the 90's. Best top end wheel was a 30Re3 that ran 106. The daily driver was a 28 chopper.

Looks very similar to my old ride.

I had a 225 opti on my current 21' Allison. It was a really good motor. It would push the boat to 90mph loaded to fish.

With a 1.75 case like you have it should be pretty quick. For some perspective, my 260 with the 28 chopper on the Eliminator would hit 86 in 1000'. I would think the chopper with a nose cone would get you into the low 90's with that motor and boat.

Check with DBR on your motor. Here is a video I did with my 300 opti that I added a DBR tune and MadEFI flywheel to. Very solid results for one bolt on part and a reprogram.

Very nice. I really like that intake mod. I'll have to hit DBR up and see what he can do for mine. Thanks for the info.

Had to work last weekend and heading out of town this up coming weekend. I plan to make changes next Friday and take boat out that weekend. I'll be sure and let you know. I'm excited to see what difference it makes and to experience this "airing it out"

So, Last weekend I went to see my buddy Trae Appling. We raised the engine to its highest on the mounting holes which a total of 2.25". This put the centerline of propeller at 3/4" above bottom of hull with hydraulic jack plate in full up and trim all the way down. With same chopper 2 28p boat still hit 78mph, although it did get there a lot quicker and with less trim. Also, boat seams to be running a lot smoother through the water. I am still running out of prop. I tried a friends 28p Yamaha drag prop and only hit 77mph, but hole shot was improved and all around , turning, felt much better. Just picked up a 30p cleavor I want to try out this weekend. I'm thinking I really need a 30p or 32p drag 4 blade prop. Water pressure between 12-18psi and temps stayed same as before.

What rpm are you turning at the 77 Mph- it will be interesting to see what the cleaver produces - remember that will produce stern lift - so lets see what that does for your top speed - i suspect it will be slow out of the hole but should improve your top . Expect a lift . Get back with results

Rpms at 5680 which is right when I start to get an alarm letting me know it's about to hit the limiter. Basically I trim it up until I get to that point. Now that engine is higher, it doesnt take near as much trim as before.
