I wonder how much power the cooling system is going to take. Gonna need something to turn a cooling pump.

The electric motor is not as big of a problem as the battery pack. Yeah sure in wheel would be nice you would not need CV's and gear reduction but at the end of the day when battery packs loose 20-30% in 7 years but a new one is $10k they become throw away cars.

The Tesla's are doing pretty good and next year they have new battery technology coming that will improve all aspects of charging quick without hurting it and longer life.

In order to be used in Semi trucks (and my new pick up) improvements had to be made, they need to charge fast and LAST.

That is only part of the problem with the battery pack. Cold weather kills the battery amp/hr most of the time it comes back in the spring, the other problem with electric cars in the winter is that you have to use the battery pack to make heat for the cabin because you don't have a IC motor to grab waste heat from. So that said the cold kills your range on two fronts. The battery pack in my car is missing 20-30% of its range mostly due to the wife running out of power twice last winter. No one is running a business that replaces the battery's in the pack.

My car has 77k on it now and whats it going to be down to amp/hr at 100k is the car junk then. Look at the resale of the Leaf and some of the other city range cars they have tanked because of how much a new battery pack cost.

The battery pack is 95% of the problem with a electric car.

Funniest thing in this area I've seen is the Harley Livewire. 60 to 100 miles of range depending on what you read or believe. $30,000. Who the heck is gonna buy that??? And currently having charging problems. Ok to ride, but they say take it to dealer for charging. Hope the dealer is very close to home. I ride an aprilia rsv1000r I paid $3k for obviously used. $5 in gas I can ride as long as i wish. Press reports claim the Livewire is supposed to revive growth for Harley. Good luck with that. Crazy.

The Leaf is well known for overstating everything about their battery's no one ever comes close to any of there claims, they are also one of the first electric cars produced, hence the learning curve, sorry to hear of your disappointment, but the new Tesla's are night and day difference, Tesla also keeps on making improvements all the time with out any fan fair, If it's better and works they implement it on the latest model, Like my brother just told me the same options he has is over $20,000 cheaper and new and improved. but He said he waited as long as he could, and was told up front that the early buyers would be paying a premium price to help install all the charging stations that they will need, his S will be 3 years old Jan 1, he has lifetime free charging, one of the perks at the time.
The new Semi trucks will have a 500 mile Battery with a million mile life, so they say

The H.D. Livewire is dead upon arrival

You can buy a Model 3 car for almost the same price and probability as fast

Not real sure Tesla is all that good of a bet.

Walmart sues Tesla over solar panel fires at seven stores

Hope their car batteries are better.

At least the Live Wire won't leak oil.

I have told him that over and over, posted links, etc, etc. He doesn't like the truth. He lives in his own world and it is not very crowded there.

most of the cost difference is in the battery pack. Like i said once they figure out the battery pack or stored electric power then they will have something.
